BACK IN THE LATE 1970’S RIBS WERE BECOMING AN EXTREMELY POPULAR ITEM ON RESTAURANT MENUS, BUT SOURCING AND CONSISTENTLY PREPARING HIGH QUALITY RIBS— REMAINED A CHALLENGE.

BRM WAS FOUNDED TO SOLVE THIS CHALLENGE IN 1985 BY SEYMOUR TALPERT AND JOHNNY CANDELARIA.

The two passionate founders initially experimented in the back of a restaurant kitchen before opening a “factory” of just more that 60m² with a dream of making a great product. The ideal product had to be of exceptional quality, with not too much fat, but still full of flavour and marinated to perfection in a delicious sauce.

It had to guarantee tenderness, requiring nothing more than a few minutes of grilling to get that authentic steakhouse taste. Over the course of almost 30 years, the combined efforts of these industry mavericks and various professionals from the restaurant, hotel and food service industry paid off when “the perfect rib” became a reality.

CHANGING THE WAY, THE WORLD COOKS MEAT — ONE SUCCULENT BITE AT A TIME.

As people got to know the “perfect rib”, they fell in love with the BRM taste.  Over the years,  we grew and moved to bigger and better premises. We expanded into offering our products to retailers, which allowed anyone to become a chef and conveniently indulge in the unique taste of BRM ribs in the comfort of their homes. Nowadays, we don’t only offer pork ribs, but also other meats including beef and lamb ribs, a whole host of chicken products, cooked rib burgers and pulled pork, beef, and chicken. Our high-quality products are available to both the restaurant industry, directly to consumers  from trusted retail chains and our well-stocked, famous factory shops.

BRM’s position as a global market leader in cooked meats, and our uncompromising commitment to quality and food safety, was first recognised in 2006, when we became the first company in South Africa to have our Food Safety and Quality Management System certified by the SABS (South African Bureau of Standards) as ISO 22 000.

Our commitment to quality and food safety is ongoing and today, both our manufacturing plants are export approved and certified by SGS International on the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) benchmarked FSSC 22 000 standard.

We operate from two modern and purpose-built processing plants, situated in Johannesburg, South Africa. Built on a combined 18 000m² of land, each factory includes not only state of the art production facilities, but also a cold storage and distribution centre, a concept kitchen and factory shop outlets open to the public.

The factories operate world class machinery and are two of the most advanced meat cooking and processing plants in the world, with capabilities to process top quality, value-added meat products in large volumes. In addition to meat, BRM operate a sauce plant where we manufacture all the sauces used in our various marinated meat products.

The factories operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and are still passionately “managed by families of the founders and a team of almost 400 people. The team includes some of the world’s top food scientists, experienced meat professionals and passionate chefs who thrive on developing new concepts and making incredible products every single day.
